  • Traction Control

I have a 97 Camaro auto and a guy at the track said my car had traction control, I think he is full of BS. Anyways does my car have traction control. If so how do I take it off. Also this guy said he had a car just like mine with 3.42s no other mods and he could run a 14.9 BS.

I belive that the V6 Camaros 93-97 didnt come with traction control. TCS became avalible on the later versions of the 4th generation but all we got was the optional 2nd gear start feature...correct me if I'm wrong anyone but I'm sure that the 97 V6 doesnt have ASR or anything like that.

It's exactly as it sounds... press that and when you start driving you'll be in second gear, meaning you'll have better traction on wet/snow covered ground as you won't spin the wheels as much... cool feature if you have to drive all year round in a place where it snows.

If traction control wasn't available until 99, why does my 96 Firebird have a light on my dashboard that says traction control? Sounds like the 2nd gear start(less spinning) is considered the traction control?

Ya, I also have traction control, but maybe due to me driving a M5.

Did the 93-97 V8 F-bodies come with any form of traction control? Maybe that's what the light is from.

I would rather not have ASR on my 02 Camaro. The only time the wheels would spin on the street is when I want them to, and then I have to turn it off. At the track I spin, but I turn it off so the car doesn't cut power when I take off. Maybe it's good in the snow, but I wouldn't take the Camaro into the snow anyways. I just got it because the car I found had it, but it isn't worth the $250 they charge for it.

When that "Traction" light comes on, it means your tires are in a reduced traction state. When in this state, the ABS is likely to come on if you need to brake. I think its just a way of letting you know.

I've noticed that when your tires slip while braking/slowing down the traction light comes on...however when ur tires spin while u have ur foot on the gas the light doesnt come on. It is a way of letting you know that u got issues when ur braking...kind of a heads up on whats happening to your car.

Do not confuse traction control for the low trac light. They are totally different things. Traction Control is used when you are taking off and the drive wheels spin, it cuts fuel or ignition to prevent the wheels from spinning. Low Trac is just the opposite, that light comes on when your ABS has sensed a decreased traction when braking and the ABS has been activated. To the best of my knowledge, Traction control was a V8 thing unless some of the newer V6's got it.
