You could solve this by using the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit or the Trans-Go Junior kit whick will give you a new valve that will eliminate the PWM, and you will not have to replace the valve body. New valve is much longer and uses the part of the bore that was not used by the original PWM valve. Now it is a on/off valve like in 1994 & earlier transmissions. Less heat & wear on the torque converter clutch with this setup. I use this in everything I build without complaint.

my 1-2 hard shifts are only under like 3400-3500 rpms and thing over that its smooth sailing. would the valve body also be the problem here.

        hey guy's i have a 98 camaro 3.8 with the 4l60e
the same thing happend to me but it isn't really hard shifting. if i stay easy in it it does ok(little harder than normal but not bad) how much does it cost to have one of this transgo shift correction kits installed. I can buy the kit on ebay for 50$ not sure if that is cheap or not. I know all you do is pull the pan and do it, and what are the chances that a kit is all it takes- not a new trannie.

Hey guys, I have been having this same problem as well. I got the transgo shift kit but I haven't installed it yet. If anyone knows, if this fixes the problem please let us know. Is it better to just pull off the Jet SCU 2000 from our cars and just reprogram the shifting times and the speedometer? and if so what is a good unit to get the computer codes off of our cars?

If I want the trans problem fixed, do I need to get the Shift Kit like this
            http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33727
or a shift kit like this?
            http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=34208
The one in the blue box seems to do more stuff but it doesnt really talk about fixing problems. I want to get the one in the blue box because it seems to do more stuff but I dont know if it will do everything that orange box one does + more?

The "modified" Trans-Go Performance Shift kit can fix this, and you can undo the reworking of the computer. This kit will soften the 1-2 part throttle and will firm up the WOT shift, when installed correctly.

4L60E is the name of the Automatic Transmission. If you have an Automatic tranny, then you have the 4L60E. 4(number of gears) L (Longitudinal) 60 (Tranny "Strength" or "Toughness") E(Electric).

JC, yes, as a matter of fact, GM has several TSBs about the problem. They have a revised valvebody that is supposed to fix the problem (I haven't heard whether it does or not), so take it to a dealership, and see if you can get them to fix it.

The only hang-up might be that they may want to see the DTC 1870 before they'll fix it

I can't vouch for the Transgo Shift kits, Pro Builder says it has the fix, so it probably does (as part of the shift kit, or a separate kit). I got my kit from Superior.

If you've just started having the problem, then you could probably get away with just doing the valvebody fix (chaging the piston), and expect the tranny to live for a while. If it's to the point that you've finally got a code (mine took quite a while before it finally threw a code), then the guts are probably torched, and my advice would be to just get the transmission rebuilt.

It hurts now, but you'll be glad you did later.

The problem started in 95, when they first started using the PWM torque converter clutch, but it was limited use in 95, then went to full use in 96. They revised the valvebody at some point after 2000.

The TSB for the revised valvebody is dated April of 2001, and that is just to fix existing problems. I had read somewhere that the revised valvebody was installed in production transmissions starting in 2000, but who knows when in 2000 that started.

Also, if the transmission was replaced, chances are good it's got the bum valvebody. That happened to me, my car had the transmission replaced under warranty in the fall of 2001, after the new valvebody and TSB were out, but the updated valvebody wasn't installed.
