I have a 2000 Pewter Camaro, got it May, and i figured out how to read the codes inside the drivers door. Anyways i found out i have 3.08's  so i'm gonna have to fix that. One good thing though I have P245/50zr16's when i'm suppose to have the P235's i guess the dealership threw them on there for me. So i was wondering if this would work a Zexel Torsen LSD for 99.99 and GM/Superior 3.42 with master installation Kit for 289.99? Am I gonna need anything else for this or do these prices sound right. Anyone know the labor cost to do this? I did a search on this but i just want to make sure cause this is a quite a bit of money for me, I'm 17 and paying insurance a car payment so.. Thanks if anyone can help out.

I found my 3.42s used on ebay for $25 shipped. They have about 15K miles on them and seem to be in good shape. You can probably get all the stuff cheap if you shop around a little bit.

I'd search around more for gear prices. The LSD is good at $99 from SLP, it's what most people have been getting. I got my gears from eBay also, but they've been sitting in my room for the past 5 months. Heck, if you wanna buy em off me, shoot me an email AlienInv8r@comcast.net . But anyways, the places I've called have ranged from $150 or so at the cheapest, usually right around $200 on average, and up to like even $350 in some places. Just call around local shops to get some estimates.

i just got my gears and posi installed.... $367 labor.... best rate i could find.... and it actually took a while to find a mechanic that would do it. most of them dont want to mess with them or a lot of the younger mechanics have never really dealt with setting up a rear end/ gears and dont seem to know how. zexel torsion posi (95.00)/ slp reluctor ring (29.00) from ammperformance and and motive gears(190.00)/ ratech master install/ rebuild kit (139.00) from thunder racing were the best deals i could find getting new parts. figure around $800 installed and ready to go.

the speed shop i had install mine included my install price in their 350 dollar install price. i paid 150 for the gears and lsd as a package off ebay off a ws6 with 20k on it. i also got the ring from slp. five hundred something dollars alltogether for me.

              This sounds like my experience.

              I went from:

              3.23 stock
              3.73
              3.42
              2.73
              3.42 again

For a total of FOUR times labor. Cheapest was $375, most expensive was $500. Swapping gears is no joke, only veteran mechanics know how to do it right (i.e. no whine).

Plan on spending a lot of money on the labor...

Yeah, don't go cheap on gear install labour... i have a friend who's had his changed 4 times just for bad work, not one of those was an upgrade :(

I got lucky, found a mechanic who is a friend and who races cars as a serious hobby(10sec 75 firebird on the juice)... $100 for labour. But that was a total fluke.

Good luck though.. you'll LOVE the differnce going from 3.08 open to 3.42s w/posi :D

as much money as you guys are talkin', considered buying a rear axle from a Z28 and popping that on there, in addition to posi/ratio/nowhine you get rear disc brakes, just a thought but I called a junkyard and they got a Z28 axle for 250, billygrahams got axles too... i would call some local places see if they got rear axles and then your all set... labor would be about same wouldn't you think?
