  • Corvette Servo Install Produced 1870 code

I had a Corvette servo installed Monday. I left the trans. shop and within 5 miles the service engine soon light came on. I went back and they put it on a scanner that showed an 1870 code
( trans slippage ) The tech said that the servo install had nothing to do with the 1870 code. He said that either my T.C. was bad or some other thing in the valve body. Has anyone heard of a Corvette servo causing an 1870 code?

No, the servo itself shouldn't trip a 1870 code. Make sure that he put everything back together right. That slippage is most likely going to be caused by insufficient pressure. He may have missed a part, or cut a gasket or o-ring installing it.

P1870 is typically caused by wear in the TCC bore in the valve body causing torque converter slip. When did you install your Jet SCU 2000? I have a theory that these things can't work and will trigger P1870. I am discussing the problem aggressively with Jet these days.

I installed the jet SCU2000 about 100 miles prior to the servo install. It seemed to work fine. The edge 3000 T.C. was installed about 250 miles prior to that.

The trans shop test drove my car again with the scanner hocked up. The first time with the SCU 2000 hocked up. Trans. showed slippage 1870 code. The second time with SCU 2000 unhocked. No problem everything read correct. Third time SCU 2000 hocked up again. Trans. showed slippage 1870 code. The SCU 2000 is junk and this is a replacement for the original that also did not work correctly.

I had almost the same thing happen, only I did expensive valve body work and a replacement to cost me over a grand to figure out it's junk. Here's the problem. It slows the "pulse" of your VSS to your PCM which sends a signal to the speedometer and BCM. The problem is that your PCM is always trying to compare your engine speed to the "expected" VSS speed. In our case, going from 3.08 to 3.42 creates a 11% slowing of the pulses. The speedo is fine with this, but the tranny sees it as slip. With a 98 or later 4L603 with Ec3 programming, once you get above 60 mph and your torque converter is locked up the computer allows no slip. We have a slip built in now with the SCU. This triggers an erroneous P1870 code. I am dealing with Jet right now and I may even sue them for the unnessary repairs I made because their product simply does not work for us. Maybe it works fine for 97 and earlier, but not for us.
