  • slp limited slip differntial question

    well someone on the board sold me a supposed unit for 2000 v6'6 but low and behold i come back to get my car and the mechanic says i need the abs ring and shorter bolts that the unit is for a older car w/o abs did i get screwed or something i am missing here dont want to jump to any conclusions.

    what gears do you have... info like that is needed... as far as the LSD, it should be this one (this is the one i have, and its all you need):

      if its the gear driven torsion unit, then its at least a 99. depending on your gears, you DO need the ABS reluctor ring to keep abs..... gear info would be helpful

        already upgraded to 342 gears. another mechanic told me that i can reuse my old abs relocator ring

          you must have changed the reluctor ring when you swapped gears then. you cant use the same one going from 3.08's to 3.42's and expect the abs to still work.

            ok went back to the shop today and the old open diff. was sitting there with no abs ring and everything was put back together guess everything went back in ok reusing the old abs ring

                He welded the ring??? Uh, what is he smokin... that can throw everything out of balance.... better tell him to buy a new ring and dont break your stuff...

                  The reluctor gear has nothing to do with your ring gear size unless you change carrier size. Yes you can reuse the reluctor gear from an open carrier even on the take-off Zexel limited-slip units. The reluctor gear tends to stick in place, even when you have the bolts out, which is probably why your mechanic didn't think it came off, then obviously broke it trying to hammer it off. All it took me was a few raps with a rubber mallet.

                  I hope the reluctor gear sits flush against the carrier now if he welded it and left a sloppy bead. An uneven surface for mounting your ring gear will cause your 3:42's to wear prematurely.
