It seems like everyone has overlooked the simplist of causes. Your clutch pedal has a return spring on it... Take a look under the dash before you go through all the trouble of bleeding the system and replacing the fluid. My return spring broke quite some time ago and i now have the "soft" pedal feel that. I can put my foot down on the pedal it it has a bit of movement to it before it actually starts to work the clutch, mind you im just putting my foot on the clutch not pressing it down. Just the initial weight of my foot moves it that little bit. The return spring makes the pedal stiff and would keep this from showing... Please check to see if the spring is broken...

thanks for the advice blazzin joe... i'll look at that before i do anything else, but i question, the dead spot gets smaller, then slightly bigger, then really small again...this makes me think its a moisture/air in the fluid thing... but i may be wrong.. lol...right above the clutch line to the slave cylinder is the bleed valve.
it takes two people..
pump the **** out of the clutch like a ****en rabbit about 10 times.. hold it down on the 10th time.. while your holding it down.. have someone under the car opening the valve.. make sure he closes it though before you let off the clutch..
its not brain surgery.. haha these new smileys are cool

He's dead on here. I just couldn't remember where the bleed screw is... it sticks out of a whole just on to of where the hydraulic line goes into the tranny. It is a long heg shaped thing (not a traditional screw)...1997 Chevrolet Camaro v6 - 13.8@104MPH
