what is the stall rating of a 99 stock convertor? is it the same as a 00+? i can only brake torque my car up to about 1900 and it just sits there. in hte drag racing forum someone was asking what to brake torque to and keith said
quote:
00+'s can brake torque higher.. which is why they cut better 60's and sometimes run better.

is that because they have a higher stall rating?

I'm not sure where in the years that the converters change.. but I'm pretty sure they do somewhere.
96-97 converters SUCK .. I have verifified this on SEVERAL stock cars.. where as a 00 can easily break the tires loose.
Somewhere in the year I THINK that the converters got a little looser.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

Do this..
Go WOT from a stop and a SPLIT second after you hit the gas hit the brake.. This will kind of SHOCK the tires and converter.. you might move up a little but you shoudl be able to stop the car while keeping it high enough in the RPM's to keep the car spinning.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

quote:
Originally posted by hawgs:

Same here, my stall is about 1800-1900 and the tires don't spin, thats why I'm gonna get a 3600 stall converter!
-Thats a good idea Magnus, I will give that a try.

FYI, my 2002 stall speed is 2400 rpm, totally stock. It seems that anyone thinking of getting a high stall converter should go at least 3000 rpm to make the cost worth it.2002 Camaro Coupe
Navy Blue, A4, Y87
Whisper Lid, Raised Air Box
SLP Bow-Tie Grill, HPP3

I can stand at the line til about 2200... I usually launch at 1900... at 2000 if the tires arent tacky enought I spin enough to make a difference.. Mine is an 01.. non Y87 if that makes a differnce, I also have a 2002 tranny... I am on tranny #2

i dont know anything about converters, but i do know that with my new lsd and gears i can still break my tires loose easily when i stand on it, just like i could before the gears... and its a 96!
