  • Question about odd acceleration

Hey everybody... I noticed the last few days that when i'm cruising around no matter how fast i am going, when i press on the accelerator pedal just a little bit, my rpms go up 800-1000 rpms and i can feel my car bog down a little... this is worse when i'm on the freeway going faster and step on the accelerator, then my rpms go up quickly 1000 - 1200 rpms... i have an automatic trans... it's really bothering me...

I noticed that this problem isn't as bad when I have the AC off... Anybody had this problem before? Is this a belt slipping? Could it be a transmission problem?

Thanks alot for any help everybody...

you mean the rpm's go up but your car doesn't speed up?
sounds like possible trans or torque converter problem if you floor it and the engine revs but you don't go.

right strange, the rpms rev up but i dont feel any accel. , someone on another board said it could be my trans is not shifting right or i may have a vaccum leak or something... what do you guys think?

my first thought is that your torque converter is going/gone.
check level of trans fluid. have you serviced trans lately???
if you have decent tech skills and knowledge of electronic automatic trans operation, begin with stall test, checking main line pressure in each gear for no more than 5 seconds, with 30 seconds of running engine at 2k rpm's in neutral to cool trans fluid in between stall testing each gear. if you can get ahold of a tech2 scan tool, check for excessive slippage between turbine shaft speed sensor and output shaft speed sensor (vehicle speed sensor). if you have no idea what i'm talking about, take car to trans shop that knows something about electronic trans.

in short, without doing any on-hand diag myself, my first thought is bad torque converter.

this happens on my car too... but only for a split second and then it feels like it "catches"... however right before my knock sensor went out this happened for a longer period of time, if its happening for more than a second maybe thats a problem too

i would. did they fix what caused the short in the first place or did they just throw a new solenoid in there?
