  • question about gears and differential

do you guys know anything about how dependable GM Motive gears are? i've bought some 3.42 gears for my 97 camaro and want to have them put on, but i've heard that they won't last very long and are not as good of gears as the ones that chevrolet puts on...can you guys help me out with this? also, is there going to be a huge quality difference in a 1988 auburn differential and a 2002 auburn differential...i mean, is the 1988 even as good as say the latest zexel torsen, or should i just use a brand new zexel? thank you.

the brand new zexel-torsen differentials are the best lsd's out there right now. you can get one from slponline.com that they put in Ta's for 100 dollars. they also have a heavy duty one for 400-500, but that's if you are planning on putting more than 650 ft. lbs. of torque to the rear wheels.

I have an Auburn and it's great. About the same as Torsen. I can't really tell at this point. I owned both. You don't want to buy a used Auburn though. They last about 50K miles before the clutches start to wear out. Make sure it's fairly new. Of if you didn't buy anything yet, just get the Torsen from www.slpeng.com

There you go. Take a ride in someone elses car and see how the gears feel.
