  • Anyone know where else i could look to find rear axel ratio

i just posted this somewhere else on accident but,

Okay, i'm trying to find out what rear axel ratio i have (3.08, 3.42, etc). I've looked all over that door and in the glove compartment and theres no gu-anything or y87. The closest thing i could find to either one of these is fp87 which is on the door and in the glove compartment. Anyone know where else i could look or maybe find out by VIN #. I'm out of places to look. Thanks

    Justin

You need to look on the door, literally on the part that is normally never seen for all your option codes. It will list a ton of 3 letter codes, and thats where you will find your GU* code.

Since you drive a 3.4 though this is unnecessary, as they ALL were 3.23 equipped I think.

You might check the rear axle housing. Not sure if it was done on the Fbodies, but I know my Buick has a code stamped on it for the axle ratio.

YES, I have stock 3.42 gears. This is a cool web site. How do I find out if I have posi?

Do a burn out and see if only one wheel spins. LOL

I actually went to the dealership and got my vin looked up, it gave me two pages of options. I was surprised at some stuff I had, and the guy said that the only way a v6 will have posi or LSD from factory is in the Y87 or the SLP RS. a 3.42 gear has a funny fluid transfer that can act like a posi and spin one, then two. power just constantly transfers from left to right so fast that they dont stop spinning. IF you are curious about what your car has, go to a local dealership and talk to the service people and see if they will do an options list. I got mine for free, but it might cost a dollar or somthing, has a complete breakdown of all parts on your car.
