  • Anyone else With differential problems?? Please Post

    hello
I have a 1999 firebird with only 46,000 miles and the rearend is already roaring very loud. I have spoken to several people that say that the f bodies are bad about this kind of thing

Does anyone else have this problem, and is there a service bulletin on the problem at gm

Please post if you have similar problems and any possible solutions or someone to contact at GM

    thank for any help
    Michael

Maybe a pinion bearing is going bad? Play in the pinion will cause gear whine. Is it gear whine or some other noise? Be descriptive. You should probably look at it soon. Mine was loud, but it's because of a bad install by a shop long time ago. I knew the bearing were fine so it was safe to drive.

GM only fills the rearend with 1qt of fluid (the bare minimum) to save cost. It is adviseable to replace this fluid within the first 10K of owning your vehicle and get the full 2qts in the housing.

Try replacing your fluid - hopefully thats all you need to fix it. I replaced mine 850 miles after I bought the car, same goes for my M5 trans.

if it is a whine your carrier is going bad and u are wearing down the bearings spinning the axle. BUt if it is like a whine such as a loud fuel pump or a tire rubbing. Have it cheked out it should cost much and will svae u the stress if it something small.
Its not a Camaro, Its a FIREBIRD!!!!

I had the same problem a short while ago. I would suggest you get your rings, pinions, bearings replaced immediately or else your gears and diff. before it tears up everything (gears and all). I would definantly get it checked ASAP.

It's a very loud whine. I first thought that it might be the tires so I had new goodyears put on the back, but it is still whining . It tends to whine the loudest at low speed when under acceleration but when you get up to 70 it isn't as loud but is still way too loud for everything to be o. k.

How could the fuel pump be causing noise?

I will check to fluid ASAP

thanks again for all the help
