  • Is my 2-piece drive shaft on it's way out?

When I let go of the gas below 20mph I hear a tapping noise under the center console of my car. I'm guess the center of the two piece is worn out, because that rubber piece tore about 2 yrs ago and grease had spit out a long time ago. The noise sounds like a bottle in a cooler type of tapping sound.

    Thx

Local junkyards will/should have 1 piece drive shafts and might have an aluminum one. You can pick one up for 50 or less and put it in your car in 30-60 mins. That top bolt holding the center portion of your drive shaft is a pain to get out sometimes.

It's kind hard to make any kind of assesment (any kind of good one anyway) with the discription you gave.

Well, the drive shaft is the only thing i can think of that is making that sound. Its not the exhaust, as I was under it just yesterday readjusting it.

I've thought about getting an Aluminum DS a few yrs back, but didn't want to deal with the possibility of vibrations as I always have such good luck with things.

Besides Ebay and yards, what about a new one? GM Parts direct? what is the part number? Where and what is the cheapest price for a new one?

        thx
