Per Jack from Precision Industries the V6 converter made by Precision Industries is not a Vigilante, it is a re worked stock unit.. If you are buying one new than they would be fine. I'm going to get a new TCI verter soon so I'll give a report on their product. My PI is busted.2000 Firebird. I disagree with Timbo here. EVERY converter under 3800, I believe it is, is merely a reworked stock converter. Though most see a negative conotation with this... its not a bad thing. I think perhaps Timbo misunderstood Jack. How long have you had the converter Timbo and did you buy it new or off another board member?
LordoftheBling has a Vigi 3500 stall and had issues installing it and blew a pump inside the tranny because the converter was not installed right (this would happen with any converter not install right... ask Magnus) and LordofthaBling posted on LS1tech asking what went wrong and PI contacted him and asked him to send the unit in so they could make sure everything was alright. They paid for overnight shipping both to and from, thats not cheap on a heavy converter.
I also inquire as to why the V6 converter from PI looks like a Vigi and why they mention the V6 converter on the Vigi page if it is not in fact a Vigi...?

A lot of people are under the assumption that the PI converter (for the V6) is a Vigilante. It is NOT. The Vigilante is the V8 converter. The converter for the V6 is what they call (or use to call) a "super stock" converter; which is basically the stock converter that came in the car, except they change the stall speed. Most companies use this practice rather than building a whole new converter. They will usually tell you otherwise. Make sure you find out everything you can about how they "build" the converter. You'll also need to give them as much information as humanly possible about your car otherwise they will be "guessing" in the building process. Also, you may encounter issues with timing retard issues and the car not responding right to the efficiency of the converter. I believe this is what happened with my car and the 2 converters I tried. Either that, or the converters were just no good. To make an extremely long story short, I ended up going back to the stock converter and ran 11's with it. If I were going to try another converter in the future, I would go with Edge because of the customer service. Andre is extremely helpful. Although I didn't get to try out their converter, I know a few others that did and are happy with it. He works with you, rather than throwing any old thing together.2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph

Clark, the diff in a Vig and a reworked stock unit is the housing.. ;) Jack sent me an email saying the V6 converter is in fact not a Vig as it still uses the stock housing. If you don't believe me send a question via the Precision Industries site.
I bought mine used, and don't want to pay $700 for a new PI.. I wasn't downing the PI converter I was just saying if you are going to buy one new, and I'm buying a TCI as it's not much more than having PI rebuild the one I have, plus it has a 1 year 100% moneyback warranty and the rebuild doesn't.. ;) I'll keep everyone posted on how the TCI verter does.. Also be careful who you are buying the torque converter from.
Even the ones from GM are just bought already rebuilt from somebody else... and sometimes those people do not know exactly what they are doing.
And when you install it, be careful when you put the screws back in. Mine had 3 bolts, I don't know if yours is the same, but when you're tightening up the bolts sometimes they can barely touch the converter and it will put a little dimple in the case of the converter making it rub and wear really bad inside. Just make sure they won't touch, if they do, put a washer on.Sinister Six©
My \'95 Bird
I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.

on my converter i remember specifically it saying vigilante. if you get the same size converter as stock but with different internals than i would assume they would use the same housing size. that being said. i believe ls1 people move down to a 9.5 like we use although with different input shaft sizes. thus they would have to use a new casing
