i searched and couldn't find anything, so it's not in the tech database, in case someone posts in here with it  .... but when i install the 3.42s, will it be off by a percentage, or will it be so many mph at all times?

it would be off by a percentage, becasue both gears would have the same "zero" but different speeds at different RPM's after that each, the faster you go the bigger the difference.Justin96Bird / Justin98TransAm<p>1998 Navy Blue TransAm<p>Whisper Lid<br />free ram air<br />K&N Filter<br /><a href=\"http://www.hhbc.com/justin96bird/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">DynoMouth Exhaust</a><p><a href=\"http://www.hhbc.com/justin96bird/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.hhbc.com/justin96bird/index.htm</a>

so, the faster you go, the more difference--meaning what? the 3.42's go faster, or the 3.23's? simple knowledge tells me it's probably the 3.42's, but i don't know...so that's why i'm asking...2000 NBM M6 Camaro Z28<br />323/335

ha! well, it's a good question nonetheless, but when i read over it, i realize it has nothing to do with this topic, lol. anyway, if you can answer it, wonderful; if not, then sorry for intruding on the post :D2000 NBM M6 Camaro Z28<br />323/335

okay, 3.42's will go faster faster meaning your acceleration will be better but your RPM's will top out sooner, 3.23 will have higher top speed, but slower acceleration. (i think that's what you may have been looking for) 3.42's will make your speedo look like you are going faster than you really are. if you had 3.23's to begin with.Justin96Bird / Justin98TransAm<p>1998 Navy Blue TransAm<p>Whisper Lid<br />free ram air<br />K&N Filter<br /><a href=\"http://www.hhbc.com/justin96bird/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">DynoMouth Exhaust</a><p><a href=\"http://www.hhbc.com/justin96bird/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.hhbc.com/justin96bird/index.htm</a>

im pretty sure that if you go from 3.08's to 3.42's for every 10mph the speedo will read 1mph high... so for 3.23's that would be for about every 20mph you will read about 1mph higher
21mph is actually 20
42 mph is actually 40
63 mph is actually 60
im almost positive thats right

My speedo says 92ish, trap speed at the track says 86.
nothing to worry about, keeps you driving slower, but will affect your odometer too. I drive to form one landmakr to another, used to always read 205 miles, exactly did this more then once, now it reads 215ish.
Jsut if you are worried about the mileage on your car looking lower.

what if you went from 3.23 to a 3.08, you could have lower mileage on your odometer than you actually do right?

there is an inverse relationship between torque and speed when discussing gears. this means that if you increase torque (like going from 3.08 to 3.42) you inevitably decrease top possible speed.
lower gears (numerically higher) will get you there faster, but higher gears will ultimately let you reach a higher top speed (however this is limited by speed limiter in PCM).ASE Master, L1, X1, C1. in my SS I went from 3.42's to 4.10 and my speedo is about 20% off so at 70mph it reads 90 or so on the speedo. so it is a percentage and not a flat number. also you will reach your speed limiter before you are really going that fast because your speedo says you are going 120mph but you are only going like 112mph if it is off by a factor of 6%.Sebring Silver 2000 Camaro SS <br />Currently working on a 409ci ironblock LS1 setup.
