You can take the line off without a special tool. It comes right off if you do it right, I know you move out the white plastic piece and push on something, gar i can't remember lol.
I changed my slave cyl without no speical tool. Just to let you know its possible.
No, you do not take the plastic piece out/off. You can use the tool to push it in till you hear a click and then the cable comes right out.
OR
You can use 2 small flathead screwdrivers and push the plastic piece in from opposite sides, again till you head a click and it will slide out. You have to push the plastic piece in to release the cable.
