• which gears

I just bought a posi and i plan on getting gears. Now i'm not sure which ones i want to go for. I heard with 3.42 i wont even feel really any diffence but with 3.73 they will kill my topend. Yes i do alot of highway milage but the rpm differnce between 3.42 and 3.73 is only like 250 rpm.

Which should i get? Also should i just put the posi in now and just get gears latter on after i'm done doing the rest of the mods a i want to do? Also how much does it cost to install a posi alone with out gears?

PS: this is for the 3.4 with 3.23 gears

Thanks

Scott

I say if your going to get gears 3.73 is the minimum if your worried about the 1mpg difference then your driving an econocar and stop modding it.

I have 3.73s in my 3.4, the highway mileage isn't too bad.
I'm at 2500rpm at 75mph. I think if you're on the highway a lot I would go with the 3.42s.
Also probably better to do the posi and gears at the same time... I know I wish I would have.

Batman when you put in the 3.73 did you feel anyloss in your top end and also how much of a difference did it make on the low-end. also did you get your speedo corrected? what did you use since there is no hpp3 for us 3.4 guys to use?
Thanks

I felt an improvement through all the gears dude.
With my 3.23s the car would burry the speedometer at 115 in 3rd gear, now it simply shifts into 4th at 100 and keeps climbing
They're a great modification for the 3.4...

I corrected my speedometer with the Tech-Edge mini-speedometer recalibrator. It's $100 from intense-racing I think.
