dif leakin.. pics inside

i had noticed drops on the garage floor recently so i knew it was leakin

had my car on the lift to get exhaust tips installed and was able to get a good look, and a couple pictures

what i dont understand is what couldve caused this to start leakin? could too much brake torqing cause it? too many burnouts?

i really dont do that stuff that often, only a couple of times in the past few months..

anyway... the thing should be covered under the warranty and i've already made an appointment to bring it in next week..

Looks like combination or Pinion seal and cover gasket..

the front isnt leakin.. just the back, around the cover and axles

if the pinion seal is leaking you will see fluid (and dirt held by the fluid) accumulated on the torque arm and the transmission tunnel. the source of an oil leak can be hard to find since oil spreads out quickly. clean the whole diff with some brake cleaner and check it periodically.

i'd say it a combo of pinion and diff gasket

one way to tell if the pinion is leaking, look at the tranny tunnel above it. Fluid will leak on to driveshaft and get spun up on to the tranny tunnel.

You can't see the pinion seal....but it is known to leak on our cars. I would replace the gasket on your cover...soon. Otherwise you could find yourself needing a whole new diff because you run out of fluid.
