  • Alright, swapping. Need some help

    Hey,

    I'm doing a 4l60e to T5 swap and have a few questions...

    1) Is the T5 tranny mount the same as the 4l60e mount?

    2) Can I reuse my cross member?

    3) Will I need a jack to support the engine, or is the transmission held up by its own support?

    4) What is the correct way of going about this swap. I have a general idea but don't want to screw up along the way. I know I'm asking a lot, but I'd appreciate the help. Camaro_zach's page is down, so don't refer me there.

    Thanks!

    1) Yes
    2) No
    3) Transmission is held up by cross member. Engine is held by motor mounts on K-member. Not quite sure what the question is saying.
    4) You will have to swap out the trannies and use camaro_zach's way of tricking the computer into thinking its an auto running fine. Another way to do it would be to switch PCM's and wiring harnesses.

The computer won't like that its not getting signals from the tranny....some stuff like speed will have to be spliced into the new tranny.

Ok, I now have a tranny, bellhousing, clutch, pressure plate, TOB, ecu, and flywheel. I need pedals.

What year crossmembers will work for me?

And also, will the auto flexplate bolts work to hold the pressure plate to the flywheel or will I need new bolts? I know camaro zach had a problem but I have a 3.4

Also, will any T5 shifter fit the tranny, IE one from a mustang?

            Will 82 - 92 pedals work?

"any" shifter won't work... all shifters have different offsets and twists and this and that and the other, as well as different mounting hardware. it seems like it would work since they have similar transmissions, but it won't.

don't know about the pedals but i am willing to bet that they will not be a direct bolt-on.

Hey drew, let me know how this goes. I'm swapping my 4l60e for a T5 in my 94 Firebird in about a week or two. Good luck with it, keep us informed! :D
