  • Drivetrain Setup for new engine.

For any of you who have been following my posts in advanced tech over the past few months, i am preparing to swap a 5.3 Vortec engine into my 93 3.4L A4 Camaro. I have a few questions about drivetrain issues.

1)What would a good gear ratio be for this engine for all around performance (off the line, mid acceleration and top end)

    Specs are all at flywheel

285-300 HP depending on year model

    325 ft/lbs of torque (roughly)

2)Would it be better to use a Tahoe/Silverado/Yukon 4L60E and change the tailshaft or Use an f-body 4L60E and change the Bellhousing?

I haven't decided whether i'm going to use a Z28 ECM/PCM or original engine PCM (Tahoe, Yukon, etc) since this engien is LS1 based.

    Thanks in advance

Dude you can use a LS-1 460le as the bolt pattern is the same. You wouldn't even need to change the bellhousing.

I thought you had to use a different bellhousing for the 5.3 truck engines???? That would rock if could just get an LS1 4L60E. Will it require any modifications to the trans mount on my 93?

I believe the bolt patterns are the same for all of the new generation small blocks. I'm not sure on the mounts, you might e-mail Magnus and ask him, he will know for sure
