  • 85W-140 Oil good for gears?

I'm installing an Zexel-Torsen takeoff from SLP into my car on thurs, and the guy at napa said that 85W-140 would be good for my car, rather than 75W-90. It's Royal Purple oil, and was pretty expensive, and I just wanna validate that what he said is true.

if you have a problem with gear whine i'd try adjusting clearances for rear gears instead of putting a band-aid on the problem by using thicker lubricant.
use recommended lube, if you have noise, perform or get rear end play adjusted correctly.
