axle bearing replacement...

How much are they to get and where do I get them. Also, is the install easy? If so, fill me in. [img]smile.gif[/img] thanks

They are not expensive but can be a real pain to change. You need a puller, three prong, rent it at Autozone and good luck. You will have to have new fluids, new seals and a new diff. cover and gasket. It will either be very easy or very hard. I pretty much had to destroy mine to get them out but the new ones went in easy.

It took me 2 full days to do the install. You have to take off the diff. cover, drain the oil, release the clips and pull the shaft out. While that is not that hard. I ran into the problem of getting the bearing out, and the bearing outter housing was stuck inside the axle. I borrowed the 3 prong sliding hammer from autozone as well. We had to destroy each bearing out of the bearing housing and we still couldn't get it. We litterly heated the axle housing up for an hour. And finally got it to come out, but after all was done. Replacing the bearing didn't solve the problem I thought it would. And 1 day later, oil started leaking out of the new bearing. I had to take it to a mechanic and get it fixed. They replaced both bearings this time and it costed me $300. All in all, i should of took it straight to the mechanic when I got the idea. However, everyone on here said the install was so easy. I'd just save myself the time and money and go with the mechanic though if I could of done it all over again.
