Bad example on my part, sorry.

I still say 3.23 or 3.42. Power adder or not, with a manual transmission you end up in fourth gear very quickly with 3.73's or 4.10's... not worth the headache. You're better off spending that cash on something that improves horsepower rather than just track use.

Yeah I don't even think they will help with track use. If you have a fast car you'll be shifting into 4th before the finish line easy. I can barely break 90 in 3rd with my auto which is real close to the end of the quarter.

well i'm hitting about 5 grand in the 1/4 in third on my stock engine now. now i've added a cam 210/210 .507/.507 111ls 107ic, and some other goodies, and expect to dyno somewhere in the 215-230 range.

so now i've gotta do the gears. seppo (same cam) with the n/a record has 3.73's...so should i go with that or up it to the 4.10s?

that's the question ;)

the only reason I'd go higher than my 3.42's is if I got taller tires, just to fix the gearing difference. what I mean by taller would be 275-40-18 or taller diameters.

So suppose you do have tires that tall?? (yeah. that's my size) what does the make the equivalent gear ratio at the ground? I know tires diameter affects it and all, but just don't know the equation. Maybe there still is highway potential with the 3.73s since I have taller tires. Ugh, I can never make up my mind, I should just get gears installed and be done with it! The longer I wait, the more I contemplate!

Well Stefan is right about 4th being a dog. But if your not worried about the speed limiter, 4.10's are probably the way to go.

But w/ a stock pcm 3.73's are the best solution N/A. On the day I was trapping 101 I was hitting the speed limiter(104 or 105) not far past the 1/4.

I also agree w/ Stefan that 3.42's are probably the best all around gears. But for strickly drag race application, 4.10's all the way.

NA i picked up:
3.08->3.42 .4
3.42->3.72 .2
3.73->4.10 .2

Gear = GOOD for NA..

For big power adder 3.42 should work well.. 3.73 and 4.10 would work even better if you have enough tire to hook it and don't break the rear.

With 4.10's you have to do over 100mph, like 105 to shift into 4'th in an auto..

If you shift into 4'th on power adder, no big deal.. I did the second half of my 1/4 in 4'th gear and still ran 12.3.

ET is all the 1/8th mile, then you're just in it for the ride.

in an auto, would you feel much of a difference during launch between 3.42's and 3.73's? man i'm so confused on which gears to get right now. if there's not much of a difference in how its gonna feel, then i think i'll just go with 3.42's. i don't really race alot, just want to feel that extra umph when i do floor it.
