Hey guys, I own a 1996 RS, 5 speed, and when i give it some gas in 1st gear, the shifter moves to the right. The more gas i give it, the more it moves. When I let off of the pedal, the shifter slams back to where its supposed to be... or where i think its supposed to be, which hits the side of the console and makes a really loud noise. A friend thought it might be the transmission mounts. Has anybody had this problem, or does anybody know what it is and how to fix it?
i would imagine that you have a broken tranny mount... get a new one, they're not expensive, get a good aftermarket one, and its not a hard install... just jack up the car, get under it, get a small hydrolic jack to prop up the rear of the tranny, change it over.. and it should not move much at all...
I had something like that.. its either the transmission mount or one of the bolts that holds it is broken. Just go under there and disassemble the entire mount. Check all the rubber and all the bolts to make sure nothing is broken or cracked. If nothing is wrong reassemble it and come back here and tell everyone they were wrong lol.
