• Transmission Shift Kit Installation... HELP!

    Hey Peeps...

I am workin' on preppin' my car for NOS and want to put a shift kit in my A4 to help with the power and have manual control over the shifting...

My Question is what exactly with the B&M TransPak do for my car... Will it allow me to shift manual from 1st to 2nd and then from 2nd to Drive and then to overdrive... All when I feel like it..

And I want these shifts to hit HARD.... Like Second and Third Gear scratching during hard acceleration...

Is there a better kit than the B&M or is it my best bet...

    THANX..

The B&M Transpak is fair, but is not nearly the same quality of a transgo. Installation is as simple as removing the pan/filter/valve body. Slightly modifying the valvebody and swapping a few fluid control springs so I hear - but it usually takes 2-4 hours if you know what youre doing. I've heard most installs run between $80-$200.

While you're doing transmission modifications, buy a corvette servo or possibly a super-firm servo - they will both make your transmission shift significantly faster.

Keep in mind scratching tires is not a result of shift speed but of clutchplate engagement order... Technically, for automatics, shift speed should be almost instantaneous at WOT and you shouldn't feel a thing.

I rebuilt mine with the B&M Transkit and it said it would make it a automatic/manual but it doesn't let you upshift when ever you want but it will hold it in that gear until you shift it and it will also downshift to the gear you put it in. The shifts are much harder than stock, nice and crisp but no barking of tires while shifting yet in mine, once I rebuild the engine and go for a bigger shot of nitrous I hope too. Oh and as far as doing the install, it's hella easy.

OK.. That helps out alot guys..

          A few more ?'s..

I've heard about the servo change.. but I'm not quite sure what it does.. I'll do a search.. but could somebody go ahead and sum it up some... Thanx..

So I should go with a TransGo Kit instead of the B&M?... Check.. Where can I get the Corvette Servo and the TransGo Kit..

Also.. What happens if later I get a custom computer program written.. Do I need to make sure they don't change the line pressures? Or will it cause problems if they do or don't change it...

          Thanx for the help guys..

Really tryin' to get this 3.4L into the 12's... Slowly.. But it'll get there..

          Thanx!

Corvette Servo you can get at www.ls1speed.com I went there and got it for $40. Tom didn't have it in stock, but called Precision Industries and they shipped it out to him. It basically applies more holding power on 1-2 shift.

Custom programming doesn't do anything with transmission.

It's not quite "hella easy" and should be taken with precaution. You don't place that c-clip that holds in your oil pump just right and that SOB is gonna pop out on you and may burn up your tranny, or tip that valvebody too much and a ball bearing skips over into another baffle and ooops. I did this with a friend who had an A4 3.4L and it made quite a difference. It shifted considerably quicker and harder all the while speeding up his car. Neither of us had worked on any transmission before and so we were very cautious and went over the directions 10 times. We started at about 4PM and weren't done till around midnight. Dinner was in there somewhere too but you get the point. Be sure to have your car plenty cooled as well We just dove into it and burned the chit out of ourselves

I just did it myself. It's pretty simple, but I advise you go VERY slow. Watch the first step on the video, read the manual, then do it. Then repeat in small steps. Put your bolts in seperate marked bags. Mark everything. The video is not correct. There are steps in the written directions that correct it. There has been improvements done since the video and you don't need some springs/balls.

My tranny has been sliping in second and sometimes third. would a shift kit fix this or am i going to have to have it rebuilt? Im running a 50 dry shot in two weeks and i want my tranny to be in its best shape.

                    thanks
