• think again about 3.73s

ok so i was talking to Fords powertrain manager the other day about my mods to my car. he told me that 3.73s were a waste of money, cause as of now, i am spinning off the line with 3.23s and jumping up a stage like that would just break my end lose, even with posi. what do u guys think?? i have trouble getting the power to the ground already. would the 3.73s w/posi be a waste of money??

All I have to say is I went to the track and beat an 02 Z28 M6 off the line four times with 3.73s and LSD. That was with 34psi tire pressure in the rear. My only complaint is that I now get wheel hop, but only at the track. I don't have any suspension mods to help with traction. On the street I still spin a bit but not as bad as I did with the open rearend.

Are you aware that you have touring tires? Good luck hooking those up.

when choosing teh correct set of gears for a car the last thing you worry about is how it will affect yoru launch.
the idea of choosing a gear set has to come from the finish line back to teh starting line, not the other way around.
how gears help teh car is to allow it to use up more, or all, of it's power band through every gear that you use in teh 1/4 mile.
the easiest way to figure it out is to see what rpm the engine makes peak power and then choosing a gear set that allows the car to rev a little past that to achieve 3-5 mph more than the trap speed you are seeing.
yes, a set of gears does give more torque multiplication which can cause wheels spin. but that is always correctable by taking care of the chassis, suspension, and tires.

There is the problem right there, talking to a Ford guy! LOL j/k man.
As others have said, 3.73s will help your performance but as with everything you need to get that power to the ground.

You can't just upgrade into some high horsepower machine and still have weak little 6" tires with an open diff, know what I mean?

wait a while on the gears. get some decent tires like 255-50's if sticking with the stock rims. the gears will help once u can hook up off the line.

think about it man...if you just put a posi thats 2x more traction than u have now...when i went from open/3.23 to posi/3.73 i got better traction just because of the LSD...even if u do spin, buy some tires! they work wonders...
