Alright, I'm new to this site. I'm going to swapping a five speed out of a wrecked 98 Camaro with my Auto. I know I need the computer, master cylinder, pedal, shifter console, and all the little stuff. Now I'm thinking of putting in a six speed. The six speed is only about $600 more. What I need is some phone numbers or e-mail addresses of specialty shops that could maybe adjust the V6 five speed computer to take the six speed. Any help would be thankful. I am a good mechanic I work on F-16's all day. I'm just not good at rebuilding computers and stuff. Let me know what yall think?

I've heard the 6 speed swap question asked many times, but I don't think anyone has done it? The biggest problems I see don't involve the computer, it would be switching the bellhousing from the T-5 to the T-56, cause the V8 bellhousing prolly has a different bolt pattern. The next forseeable problem would be the amount of splines on the input shaft, it's gotta match up. I don't think the computer needs to be adjusted though, I could be wrong, anyone else?

I don't see the computer having any problems. As Tom said, the bellhousing would be a problem. If I'm not mistaken, the T56 bellhousing is bigger. I guess it could be possible to make it fit by drilling some extra holes in the block, but you gotta be real careful doing that kind of stuff. The input shaft is another forseen problem. It may or nay not have more splines, but the 6spd tranny would need a new clutch anyway, so I don't see that as the problem. It might be longer or shorter though. Plus with the new clutch that's not made for the 5sp, you'll probably need a matching flywheel, which may or may not bolt on. It's alot of custom work, but I'd like to see someone try it.-Travis
99 Trans Am, Pewter, A4 Forged, stalled, and cammed
85 Buick Regal WH1 T-Type It\'d be cool if it ran...
94 Camaro 3.4, Teal, M5 The daily beater

I have heard of it being done but I cant remember where. the only thing I recall giving problems was the bellhousing. If I remember correctly they had a custom bellhousing fabricated with the different bolt patern to mount the 6speed to the v6. Damn I would love to have that.
MPG out the friggin roof!
