• Stock Z-28 rear question

I want to pick up a stock Z-28 or trans am rear end so i can get an LSD and 3.42s, but i'm reading that some Z's came stock w/ 2.73s, so if i buy one from a junk yard how do i know what i'm actually geting??

well i do know this..look inside the drivers door for RPO codes...i haven't heard of a Z28 with a 2.73 rear end but if you see

GU4 = 3.08
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42

that is...even if the car still has the sticker inside the door

If you want 3.42's, then you want a rear from a 6spd car. I believe it was only '93 that actually had the option in a 6spd for 2.73's, all the rest came standard with 3.42's.

Automatic Z28's/TA's had 2.73's standard and an option for 3.23's

are you talking about the GU codes?

If so then yes, they are correct for all years.
