What options do I have for a speedo recalibrator on a 00 3.8L?

  • #2
the speedo is controlled from within the stock computer. all you have to do is get it reprogrammed for the new gears set. most shops that have taps to read obd2 can take care of this for you in a few mins.

you can get the speedo recalibrator from SLP, i think it retails for $170 USD...and i *think* it's intense racing that sells a recalibrator for $100 USD.

both of them just get spliced in between the pcm & speedometer. there are little switches on them that you have to setup for your application. they manipulate the signal coming from the pcm to fit your application.

No...very few shops can reprogram our comps. The ones that can charge $300 to do it.

my friends dad has a hand held from snap-on that can do it. it is included in the diagnostic software to adjust certain points in the programming. the same is true of many other brands hand helds for ODB2, they are great toys if you can afford them.

how much do dealers usually charge to flash a PCM with a y87 vin #??? Shouldn't be that expensive...someone once mentioned it only costed them like 30 bucks i think. Anyone have it done and know the cost to have a dealer do it?
