The same f'ing shop where I did my smog check (in lounge entitled "I F'ing HATE California") quoted me at $550 - $600 to change out parts for my rear end (I buy and provide the parts - diff, gears, etc...).
So, raise your hands if you think that's just a taaaaaad weee bit too much.

Dude, find a junkyard that is selling a complete rear with the gears you want, and install it yourself...then move outta Cali ;)
