  • ??? on Torque Arm

I Have a couple questions for people with aftermarket Torque Arms:

    - What type did you get?
    - How much did you spend?
    - Where'd you get it?
    - How hard to install (The mount on the tranny mainly)
    - Is it worth the price??

I'll most likely be redoing my hole rear end (Torque Arm, LCA's, and Z28 rear end w/ drive shaft (Alum. or stock Z28?? which is better for the $)) all at the same time. I'm just trying to get my parts lined up before I do the swap in Feb./March.

    Thanks,

I'm going to do it now while I have the hole rear axle and drive shaft off and out of the way so I don't have to worry about it later on down the road if I either decide to build the V6 up or swap to a LS-1.

cammed3800, you should try decaf dude.
a lot of people should get a better torque arm than stock. the stock piece is a simple stamped piece of steel sitting in a rubber mount at the forward end. it can deflect and distort with in hte bushing very easily which contributes to poor handling and launches.
there are a ton of good aftermarket ones, problem is most are very pricey. i am a big fan of the random tech/SLP one myself(they look exactly the same, random one is 10bucks cheaper on thunder racing). they use the stock forward mounting point, just replacing the bushing with a poly piece. the tubular construction is a lot stiffer than stock so you will immediately notice gains in straight line launch as well as off corner acceleration.

good luck with yoru project, hope this helps.

edelbrock, its not adjustable, it took me about 1 hr to install it, i helped my buddy install his Random Tech TA the other day and it took us about 30-45 more minutes becuase of the adjustablity and small problems we had w/it but i highly recommend one, it works good

For a street car with some track use, do i really need an adjustable one??

I have put the Spohn torque arm on a few cars here and they are REALLY nice. I like how they bolt to where the tunnel brace bolts on to instead of bolting to the tranny. They are a little more pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

if ya think ya need one go for it, but to be honest your stock one should be fine for what mods you have listed, i know guys that are cutting 1.5 60's with the stock torque arm, im not saying that they wouldnt bennefit from an after market one, but just cause the aftermarket makes a torque arm for our cars dosent meant that we need one, IMO the money could be spent in other places and provide greater results, but if you want one by all means go for it , its your car

                        I agree completely.

However, if you do go for one, the Random Tech is a nice unit that's pretty inexpensive and built real nice. I've done a torque arm swap a number of times on my friend's car and it's relatively easy, probably an hour or two, especially since it'll be your first time.

I'm still on my stock one on my V8 and plan on staying on that one for a while.
