no no no , 1LE shaft should only be on SS or a WS6, however im not postitive... however i know all Z's dont have 1LE shafts , the 1LE shaft is a 1 peice alumnium shaft that is larger than a stock alumnium LS1 shaft

w3rd, im positive they are all not alumnium 1LE shafts... i have a 1 peice LT1 steel shaft

pretty much any alumnium DS will be around 100$ from what ive seen, however a steel one can be had for around 10$

Then where did the 1 piece steel driveshaft come from?

v6s 93-97 had 2 pieces... and you jsut said all others have aluminum...

either way,
93-97 steel driveshafts
98-02 Aluminum driveshafts
1Le might be on some SS, and other cars but will be on 1LE specific cars which for the most part are rare.

Aluminum in the ned will be the cheapest.

Hmm strange, to my understanding all V8's came with a Alum. driveshaft. I'll have to go read up on it. I'm human so yeap, I may be wrong. I'll post back when I find out some more info. But, sorry for the info above if I am wrong, it was late and I just posted what I've always heard and saw on the V8's. Hey, if I'm wrong I just learned something new. ;) I'm always up for learning something new about Camaros and Firebirds. Anyone find a place that has data on this please post it. I'm going to go do some reading. I'm glad this was posted though, good info to know.

97 and older V6s got 2 piece steel even with Y87 package
98 and newer V6s got 1 piece steel
LT1s got 1 piece steel. Except for the 1LE Camaros
LS1s got 1 piece aluminum
1LE and LS1s got the same aluminum driveshaft
1LE are basically stripped performance package for Z28s.
Also, GM replaced some driveshafts on LT1 Camaros with 1LE driveshafts because of some noise problems.

That should clear things up a bit

my 98 V6 had a 2 piece. LS1 cars had aluminum; this is NOT the same as the 1LE but it will function essentially the same. the best part: getting rid of that stupid center bearing! the 2 piece shafts look like something out of a moving van.

Anyone have any hard data on gains from switching to the lighter driveshaft?

post part numbers of the LS1 and the ILE shafts, i have heard they are different, with the ILe being 1/2" larger than the LS1 shaft.

Either way, any T56 98-02 car will have an aluminum shaft.

I believe the 1LE is actually a smaller diameter (although it has a thicker wall). It is definitely not the same as the stock LS1 aluminum shaft, it's actually stronger.
