i have a 97 rs camaro with this clunk. i've read
the other articles on the clunk but they don't seem answer my question. the clunk only happens when i disenagae the clutch in 1st gear or reverse. I don't have to be turning, going up/downhill or a bump, just disengaging in 1st or reverse. It gets worst as the car heats up. it's really bad when i'm in reverse and disengage the clutch quickly. the u-joints are tight and i don't thats the problem. Anybody have any ideas as to why it gets worse as the car heats up.

Dont know exactly what you read, but you could check the trans mount first, then I would check the clutch it's-self by pulling it and making sure the flywheel and pressure-plate bolts are secure. Hopefully it isn't anything inside the transmission's internal gears. I broke a countershaft once in my 76 T/A M4 by popping the clutch too many times, and my trans made a horrible clunking until I tore it all apart and finally found the problem.
