I got some 3.42's from a 98SS off ebay and I had an Auburn Pro 3 series diff lying around and the gears seem to be jus a little too small to fit. Do they just need some "convincing" or should they slide on easily. By little to small I mean that one side will slide down while the other doesn't slide over the final little lip.

Interesting. The Strange 3.42's that I bought were too big for my Zexel differential, but my mechanic suggested that I get the Auburn. Bought different gears instead. I've got an offer pending, but you can have my gears for $75 shipped if it falls through. Or a trade, or whatever. They should fit perfectly w/ your Auburn.

A little "persuasion" with a rubber mallet should do the trick. It shouldn't be easy for the ring gear to slide on and off.

Thanks...the rubber mallet worked. I also stuck the diff in the freezer for a few hours before I tried. That seemed to help get the gears started.
