Automatic Shifter Plate

i have an automatic 95 camaro. im going to replace the shifter plate piece on the center console. i noticed the bottom of the shift stick is welded to a bigger piece of metal and it wont come out there. im guessing you can remove the shift nob maybe and slide the plate up and off??? i need to know how to remove the piece and get the new on in. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

There should be a large metal clip, looks like a big staple, pressed into the front of the knob that holds it on. Once the clip has been pried out, the know can be removed from the shifter. It is a little tight, but a couple of pulls should remove it.

alright, ill have to check. i looked once before, just a glance over, didnt notice anything like a staple or screw. ill check it out tuesday when i have time. thanks for the advice.
