This might kinda be a dumb question. Is my 4 speed automatic 3 speeds with the 4th being overdrive or is it 4 speeds with the 5th being overdrive? The reason i'm asking this is because i recently had my transmission casing replaced (he was supposed to put my original transmission back in) and now i'm counting 4 gears before overdrive, and i was under the impression that i only had 3 before overdrive.

depends on the converter you have too. in stock converters, the lock-up is really weak, and 500 rpms is about right. with my aftermarket converter, the lock-up was built so tight and efficient, that it feels more like a gear than 1, 2, 3, OR 4. 1-2 drops maybe 300 rpms under normal driving, 2-3 drops maybe 300-500 under same conditions, and lock-up drops well over 1200 rpms under normal driving. and OD drops only about 200-500 rpms as well. strange how torque converters work.2000 NBM M6 Camaro Z28<br />323/335
