  • How to identify what gear size you have... help please

heres the situation. i was in a wreck 2 months ago and i just go the car back. i clearly remember that my top speed w/ 3:73 gears on my M5 being 98mph. NOW it seems the top speed is 105mph.... did they swap my rear end around? and give me one with 3:42's? Just for reference i started out from the factory with 3:23's.

My LSD is working, i tested that last night. So whats everyone think here? Is there a way to look at the gear ring and identifyy the size?

what the hell, easy answer, can you tell a difference in acceleration? cause if you can't, then you probably didn't get diff gears in there, cause there is a pretty noticeable difference between 3.42s and 3.73s. if it feels weaker than before, then it's obvious as well...

A easy mechanical way is to lift up the rear. Lay under the car and have a buddy sit at the rear wheel. Make a mark on the DS, then have your buddy turn the wheel one full turn. Then just count the times the DS rotates.

To me, that is a little more direct then calculators, just my opinion.
