Changing gears to get fast accelleration will result in your engine running faster while cruising. If you want to get to speed fast, then you're engine will cruise higher. You can only have one or the other, to a certain extent. 4.10s would be for all out accelleration, but would kill your top end. 3.73s or 3.42s are the standard ones to choose from, 3.73s giving marginally more acceleration and less top end. BTW, this post belongs in the drivetrain section. ;)

Absolutely not! Stop giving false information. It will not "kill his top end. You need to do the math! With 4.10's and a .70 overdrive. You'll have a top speed of over 130 MPH.
How many V6 F-bodies do you know that can hit 130 MPH??? Chances are, like most people you are goverened (~115 MPH) well below any actual redline limited MPH.
3.73's will never out accelerate 4.10's in the same car with no other changes. Never. More gear means more multiplied torque at the wheels. When will less power accelerate faster than more power???<b>15.41</b> @ 89.80 & 15.45 @ <b>91.64</b>, 2.21 60ft, 3,440 raceweight, using <b>OEM</b> Equipment. <br />\'98 L67/M49 w/ 134,000 miles before spun bearing. \"<i>It\'s all stock, Baby</i>!\"

I never said with 4.10s you would hit the rev limiter before getting up to speed. From the Mods Encyclopedia:
<blockquote>quote:</font><hr>On a naturally aspirated 3.8 they will kill the top end, so dont even think about 4.10s unless you are running forced induction or nitrous oxide to make the additional power they will need. <hr></blockquote>

Once again, I never said 3.73s would out accelerate 4.10s. I said 3.73s would give a little better acceleration than 3.42s, not 4.10s.

Hey DevilBoy, what did you use to recalibrate your speedo and shift points for 3.73's? or did you not do that? I'm still stuck on what I want, I have the 3.42's sitting in my trunk, but thinking about eBaying them and getting 3.73's still. Rrgh! I would recommend 3.73's hands down. The only reason I cant recommend 4.10's is because I dont have them, and I dont want to recommend something I dont know about.
But, guessing on how much I love my new 3.73's, I think you should get 4.10's.
I agree with Bliggida- going up in gears will only cause your top end to go up. I really cant imagine how getting better gears could hurt your top end at all.All gone :(<br />Best ET ever: 14.3 (I think)<br />----------------------------<br />Check out my site for exhaust clips, burnouts, and pictures, and the supercharger throttle body mod.<br /><a href=\"http://www.geocities.com/net_addict/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Click on the Firebird</a>

do you realized what you said?..that makes NO SENSE at all, going up in gear ratios equal a better low end, and less of a top end, 2.73s = ultimate roll racing 150mph+ gears, 4.56s = ultimate stoplight to stoplight 0-75 gears

I think what he means is in light of exactly how much top end speed you lose - its negligable, especially since most don't get past the govenor anyway.
With 4.56's you'll still have a top end of 130 or faster.<b>15.41</b> @ 89.80 & 15.45 @ <b>91.64</b>, 2.21 60ft, 3,440 raceweight, using <b>OEM</b> Equipment. <br />\'98 L67/M49 w/ 134,000 miles before spun bearing. \"<i>It\'s all stock, Baby</i>!\"
