  • Diff fluid changing question

I need to change my differential fluid pretty badly, but I've never done it before, so I have a few questions...

How much fluid do I need? Viscosity? I know I need to buy a new gasket too, since I need to take off the whole cover. Do I need an LSD additive as well (I have an open diff, but in every search I've done here everyone has put in LSD additives). And how do I fill the diff back up? Apparently, it must be very hard to do so.

Any other tips would be helpful!

    BTW I have a 95 3.4 A4.

1.65L (3.5 pt) of Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Oil.

    You don't need the additive.

Fill it up using the fill hole on the rear end. To make it easy get a hand pump, because trying to pour the bottles into the hole can be tricky.

Yes and not to mention messy and extremely smelly.

I never re-used a gasket on the diff cover. I cleaned the cover and put high-temp (orange) silicone on it, and let it dry overnight.

Also, I put a very thin layer of grease on the diff housing where the silicone on the cover meets up with it. Incase I ever have to pull the cover again, the silicone won't bind to the diff housing.
