I have 3.42s and am wondering if 3.73s will make THAT much big of a difference, like to where i could realllly feel it? If anyone has done this, or knows the answer, and help would be nice.

from 3.08's to 3.42's in the quarter mile you see about a .6 sec difference and from 3.42's to 3.73's you'll see about a .2 sec difference in the quarter mile--unless you can find the gears cheap and no how to install them yourself and/or you drive a race car f-body, i don't think i'd spend the money for that small upgrade. but hey, everything counts!2000 NBM M6 Camaro Z28<br />323/335

If you already have 3.42s and LSD, I'd save the money for a better torque converter. Something with a relatively low str (stall ratio) if you can get it. My opinion of a good one: A 2800 stall torque converter with a 2.2 stall ratio. Sorta like the best of both worlds, decent efficiency (power throughout the whole powerband) and decent torque. I hear that a 2.5 stall ratio will roast your tires. Try Yank or Precision.
With a gear change from 3.42 to 3.73 you should see a 9 percent increase in acceleration. 3.08 to 3.42 should get you an 11 percent increase, and 3.08 to 3.73 should get you a 21 percent increase. These figures do not include the small percentage increase you get from going to smaller diameter tires. For example, my rear axle ratio went from 3.08 to 3.14 just from going to a 50 series tire.
For the record I'm going with 3.42s. I think with 3.73s, I'll have to think about too many other things to avoid wheelspin, plus I want to keep my rpms lower on the highway.

You know back then I posted this in the Z28 messageboard and alot of people told me to stick with my 3.42. The reason for that is because alot of them notice a good take off but lost top end hp. So there timeslip wasn't all that great. Plus your gas mileage would be loosy. So I never open the box that I ordered from Tbyrne and just returned it. If I were you just get a Corvette Servo and Converter. But good luck wish ever you go with

Gears don't change your horsepower or torque. You're simply put into higher RPM faster and the gears take shorter time hence "short" gears name.
You choose gears based on how YOU want the car setup. There is no wrong choices. If you're hardcore into drag racing and staying relatively NA then 3.73s and 4.10s will work. If you're into big power adders and/or drive on the highway alot then 3.42s will be great. Everyone has different needs.
