I again apologize V6bob I do need to edit some of the opinions I made in that guide. I've changed a good number of my opinions about those things since I wrote it. However I am heavily against the powertrax unit on a street vehicle, and I was referring to the $99 posi SLP sells.

Their Torsen upgrade for $499 is a piece of crap. The only other torsen I would buy would be the T2-R from Strano, and that would only be for road racing when/if I had the power to spin the inner wheel like V8s do.

I'm just trying to emphasize the fact that you're not doing yourself a favor going with the powertrax unit if you think it'll lower your 60' more than a torsen will... it won't.

Also a torsen differential is probably easier to install since its a direct swap than a powertrax unit. Mine was swapped by GM in 45minutes flat, I watched them. I would have done it but by letting them do it for $60 I got a lifetime warranty on it like it was a factory part .

I guess the SLP Zexel for $99 seems the best route then. I just want both wheels to spin . Thanks everyone for the help on this. I guess you can't always believe everything that advertisers tell you about their products ;) .

sorry for raising this post from the dead but i had to ask...
Since the locker diffs are cheaper (reiderracing starts them out at 190 bucks[i know the slp take off is 100]) would the install not be cheaper since reiders page says that you can do the install at home with out any special tools? because around where i live a posi install is going to cost me 350..... at the two best places in town (only places my car will go to) plus the price of the differential, plus install, plus fluids and install kit. i tallied it up and the final price was like close to 700 bucks. not cheap when your only a senior in high school.

so would a locker be cheaper to install? i dont care about turning and such since i really only drag race and i'm getting tired of the ancient art of one wheelie peelies.

Thanks!

i dont know if anyone resolved this problem, but the Powertraxx units are true locker rears UNTIL YOU TAKE A TURN. then they actually unlock, allowing one wheel to turn faster than the other so you dont get that chattering from the car. if you get a powertraxx, it will spin them both at the same time all the time. but cornering will be normal.

I did my LSD install for the cost of fluids and a gasket. It is easy, no special tools needed, sockets, torque wrench and a good hammer.

Yeah dude! The Zexel Torzen unit is good.It can handle up to 500 ft.lbs of torque.Got mine for 105.00 shipped and only took me 2 hrs to do it my self. Not bad for the first time, it would take less time if i had to do it again. But not hard at all.

The issue with the locker is its a "quick fix" for an open rear to lock it up for drag racing, but its the same sucky normal cornering an open rear provides.

For the cost, its not worth doing, when you can get a torsen for $100 from SLP.
