  • my experience with poly tranny mount

i had some clunking during my shifts, especially when shifting to reverse. I got the 25 dollar poly mount from autozone and put it in while i had the car up to put in my 1le front sway bar (which i have to admit is pretty nice). i dremmeled the new part of the hole as usual, and i installed a half inch worth of washers. i used very large washers, and they fit the mount almost perfectly. pretty much every bit of the mount contacts the washers. when i mounted the washers i placed some very thin rubber gasket paper (left over from my header install)inbetween them, in hopes of absorbing a little more of the vibrations. when i finally got back in the car for a test drive i felt almost none of the vibrations everyone talks about. i find it hard to believe that it was the gasket paper, but the vibrations are alomst non-existent. Everyone around here made it sound like the car was going to vibrate apart, but i didnt get any of that. and of course, the clunking noise when downshifting, or when shifting into reverse is gone, and replaced with a nice soild shift. my car is an a4, i dunno if that makes a difference. what i do know is that im glad i got this mount.

I think what the difference here is that you guys have an A4 and are not feeling any vibration.. All of us guys with the 5 speed, feel like their seats are massage chairs.

Yep. When I first put the mount into my M5, The whole interior just shook all around. It shook so bad I thought I had done something wrong..the vibration was way more than I expected. The noise was 2X louder in the interior than previously. it has softened out a bit after 500 miles or so.
