• Aluminum Driveshaft

I have some 3.73's and a rear posi ready for installation but a small leak was found at the end of my driveshaft. I'm considering buying an aluminum driveshaft for the right price and be done with drivetrain mods.

Besides weight, how much will the aluminum driveshaft help? Where's a good place to buy one?

Any comments regarding my situation or new driveshafts are welcome.

Thanks,

Brett

Buying a new D/S will not fix the leak you have. It sounds like your Pinion Shaft Yolk is leaking from the rear, a common problem with alot of us. I had a leak there, so I just drained the old diff fluid and put in heavier weight fluid. ~Problem solved~
As for buying an aluminum D/S, I'm looking for one too, but the cheapest I have found so far is Ebay (and that's still too much). If I find a place thatr sells them cheaper, I'll post it here.

heavier gear lube will rob some hp cause it's harder for the gears to circulate. i don't know a number, but you could lose 10 hp easily depending on the gear oil you put in the rear housing...

yep, very much true. the thicker it is, the less noise it will make, but the less power it will have. try swimming in water...then go swim in maple syrup...which do you think is going to be easiest to swim in?

LOL syrup huh? Just make sure you use the manufactures recomened weight. Then if you want a little extra protection, and free up a little hp maybe use syth. stuff. ;)

does the 1le shaft from gmpartsdirect.com come with the u-joints and yoke or is it just a 'bare' shaft?
