• Need Answers Before Getting 3.73s

I'm going to end up getting a 3.73 rear-end set-up with an LSD, but I don't know if I will need to take precautionary steps to aid the engine/transmission. Will I need to add anything to the car before the gears? Will I need to recalibrate the speedometer?

i believe you will have to recalibrate the speedo

Is there any type of program I could just buy to recalibrate it myself? Maybe even tune it too? It's a '98.

I heard with 3:73's your first gear is so short it's almost useless. Is that true?

you will need to recalibrate the speedometer in order to keep your shift speeds right and also to not hit the speed limiter..unless its a manual..then you'd just want to recalibrate the speedometer..also if you are going from a 2 series differential to a 3 series you will need to get a 3 series ABS reluctor ring in order to keep your ABS operational (if you have ABS)..you can get one from www.slponline.com for about $20

LittleG has 4.10's with the M5 (3.75:1 first gear) and at full throttle, first is good for just over 60'

One more question... what all am I buying?

LSD
3.73 gears
Ring spacer
Cover

Do I need an install kit or anything else?

if i granny it, i'm shifting at about 20 mph with my 5 speed. So to answer your question, yes i still use first gear.

For the full install you will need
gears
lsd
cover
install kit
gear lube
limited slip addative (if needed)
and the reluctor ring
