Well I broke my 3rd 10 bolt last weekend.. It had a Aurburn pro LSD in it.. So now its time to upgrade to a 12 bolt.. Any suggestions?? I have been on LS1Tech for the past 2 hours just looking at the 12 bolt options, complaints, and whatever else I found.. They seem to whine alot.. I am looking at a Posi unit one with 31 spline axels, T/A cover, and with 3.73's..

You might want to look at the ford 9 inch as well, however the axle housing is gonna have to be shortened. I've seen a lot of guys on ls1tech running htem as well, however it takes a bit of custom work, and you may need a custom driveshaft for it to hook up as well. The one you are lookin at seems to be a pretty solid set up. Did you have the T/A cover/girdle on your last 10 bolt set up?1995 Camaro 3.4L Black with T tops, 5 speed manual

Mods:
Pro 5.0 short throw shifter, MSD Ignition coils, 3.73 gears, Torsen LSD,Mac diff cover, Umi LCAs
K&N Cold Air Intake, Window Tint (20% rear, 35%front), aluminum driveshaft, fastchip tuning

not really. Plus it wont break. y spend almost the same on a 12 bolt thats has a better chance of breaking?http://www.geocities.com/hemigtx001
http://www.geocities.com/hemigtx001/Firebird_Index.html
1993 3.4L firebird
mods-flowmaster 80 series, removed cat. the 9 inch was just an idea. is your car a daily driver or do you use it at the track only? what part of the 10 bolt blew, the gears or the lsd?1995 Camaro 3.4L Black with T tops, 5 speed manual

Mods:
Pro 5.0 short throw shifter, MSD Ignition coils, 3.73 gears, Torsen LSD,Mac diff cover, Umi LCAs
K&N Cold Air Intake, Window Tint (20% rear, 35%front), aluminum driveshaft, fastchip tuning

I drive it alot.. On my 1st 10 bolt it was the ring teeth, on the 2nd rear it was the pumkon housing, and on this one it was the spider gears in the diff..Jeff ..

i was gonna suggest going with a spool kit but that wont work for a daily driver. I say go with that 12 bolt you mentioned in your first thread. It sounds like a solid set up.1995 Camaro 3.4L Black with T tops, 5 speed manual

Mods:
Pro 5.0 short throw shifter, MSD Ignition coils, 3.73 gears, Torsen LSD,Mac diff cover, Umi LCAs
K&N Cold Air Intake, Window Tint (20% rear, 35%front), aluminum driveshaft, fastchip tuning

Update....
Well it wasnt the spyder gears in the diff it was the carrier bearings.. I busted both sides.. Pretty cool..
After much thought and lots of talking to moser and Strange I decided to stick with the 10 bolt.. Reasons being.. The 12 bolt weighs more then the ten bolt which means more power to turn the axles.. 30 spline axles are still too much axle for a all motor most of the time 6 banger.. The cheapest I could find a 12 bolt for was at LS1speed.com.. It was 2500.00 with backing plates on it and another 150.00 for shipping not to mention install, and oils and stuff like that.. so 3000.00 all together.. Thats alot of money for a car that will not see that much track time to need a 12 bolt.. So this is what I am going to build..
10 bolt with Zexel torson heavy duty LSD. 469.00
Mac rear end cover.. 100.00( local guy selling one)
Moser axles.. 250.00
4.11's and full rear end kit 290.00
so 1100.00... I wont launch my car on the nitrous and the rear should be fine.. I wont loose any power from what I put down now due to it being the same rear end.. This should be done next week and next month I can build my tranny with a G-force kit..

I would get a dynatrac custom rear axle assembly, there around 2200 for 8.8 9". You could get the 8.5" 10 bolt, its a little stronger or get a ford explorer 8.8, I swapped one into my bronco 2 a few years back, first car. The problem with using junkyard parts is that they will require work to make them fit and they may not be the correct width. Either go with another 10 bolt with a TA cover with carrier preload bolts and stay 3.42's or lower to keep the strength in the gears. Or get a series 2 10 bolt and swap in thick 3.42 gears a little extra beef in the ring and pinion.255/50R16 Tires, Pioneer Deck, Pioneer 4 Way speakers, PPI Amps, JL subs, Spec Stage 3 Clutch, Optima Yellow Top

PS you can't rebuild your current axle, its toast did that my bronco 2 doin 75 mph, foot on the gas , tires with full grip, and spider gear stuck on case blew both carrier caps and all, that was fun, shrapnel through the diff cover. hehe255/50R16 Tires, Pioneer Deck, Pioneer 4 Way speakers, PPI Amps, JL subs, Spec Stage 3 Clutch, Optima Yellow Top

Rotating mass.. The 12 bolt is 8.5 inchs.. That would kill my car.. Thats why V6 mustangs come stock with a 7.5 inch rear end.. The main caps are still good.. Thanks for the input but my car only makes 225 rwhp and 225 rwtq.. If I go any bigger then a 10 bolt 7.5 I could expect a 5- 10 percent loss in power.. Thats 10-20 hp.. and as for the strength of the gears I am not going to launch on spray and or put slicks on my car.. I will be launching on 225 rwtq.. That will not break a ring gear..Jeff ..

If you have the money, get a moser 12 bolt and never worry about it again. I don't think you'll ever need a 9inch in a 6 banger, since I don't think a 6 can break a 12 bolt. The 12 bolt is actually 8.875 inches and the 10 bolt in the 4th gen is 7.5 inch. Thats a pretty big difference so you can see why its that much stronger. In the past Chevy used a 8.2 inch 10 bolt in some novas and 1st gen camaros etc and then mainly used an 8.5 bolt in alot of cars in the 70's. Also, moser completely welds the axle tubes in the 12 bolt which adds a little strength. If you decide to stick with the 10 bolt, get an eaton posi, moser axles, and an aluminum cover. Should be good to about 400 hp.69 Camaro 350 4spd, Full Hotchkis susp, Baer brakes, moser 12 bolt, Flowmaster

96 RS Hotchkis STB, subframe connectors, Hotchkis LCA and adj Panhard rod, SS camaro sway bars, Bilstein shocks, powerslot rotors, Borla exhaust, rksport headers, k@nFIPK
