How much DOT3 fluid do I get to bleed the system?

Hey guys, I need to bleed my clutch fluid and replace it. Its dirty as hell, and Im thinking it might fix a problem or 2 Im having. I read how to bleed the system, I just need to know how many bottles of this stuff Im gonna need...

yeah definitley do it...

as for fluid, its hard to say, not sure of the measurements it is really not that much. Like 2-3 cups tops, you may want more so you can pump it through clean to make sure its thoroughly flushed.

I reccomend picking up a Mighty-Vac vacuum pump tool. helps out alot.

i had to bleed mine after i put in my clutch master cylinder and it didnt take that much, i just had to do it like 4 times. i think bleeding the system only takes out the air, so yea your gonna need that thing that shenanigans said.i dont think you would use more than one bottle though.

I HAVE to have the vaccumm pump thing? I read somewhere that one person loosens the bolt connecting the line to the transmission while anotehr steps on the clutch to bleed out all the old fluid. Then tighten it back and replace. Im kinda broke right now, I have the DOT3 fluid but no more $$$.

lol, nah no book either. This car has been a learn as I go type of thing. I did it with computers and now Im doing it with a $10,000 car, well just have to wait and find out...

hang on, no use messing stuff up, i have a haynes book. ill see what i can find.well it does say bleeding the lines is only nessasry when level of fluid has gone too low and is allowing air to get in.

step 1.raise car and place it securely on jackstands

step 2. connect a plastic line to the bleeder screw on the clutch relase cylinder and submerge the other end of the line in a container of the clutch fluid.

step 3.depress the clutch pedal SLOWLY and hold it there, loosen the bleeder to purge the air, then tighten the bleeder. repeat until all air is completely purged from the system.

step 4. fill the clutch master cylinder resevoir with fluid.
CAUTON: do not use clutch fluid that has just ben bled from the system to the the resvoir.

ok thats word for word what my book says. do you know where everything else? i can try to scan a pic or two or describe where anything is.hope that helps.
