• is a short throw really worth investing in?

i was kinda thinking of getting a short throw shifter, probably the pro 5.0 or b&m ripper. but almost $200 for it is kinda expensive. also, if i got the short stick to go with the pro 5.0, thats almost $230. so is getting a short throw really worth it, or should i put that $200 towards something thatll add some power? i have a 2001 v6 so 200hp isnt too much imo. thanks guys

In a word, YES, its worth it. I wouldent bother with the short stick for the pro 5.0. have fun with it the way it is and eventually you might want to go ahead and get the shorter stick. The stock shifter is such a rubbery POS, I enjoy driving the car so much more with the Pro 5.0. Performance wise you wont see much unless you live at the track, but it makes driving everyday more fun. Thats what makes it worth it.

RIPPER! One of the best investments I've made for my car! And $165 is a damn good price for it too.

Look for a used Pro 5.0 (at least that's what I run). Click-klack and you never miss a gear! Got mine for $100 or $120 or so from someone on this board. No sense buying new!

once you get one you'll wonder why you went so long without it. a better shifter combined with a polyurethane trans mount makes the car feel completely different.

I think my B&M was on sale at Summit, I got it for $135. It makes your car actually feel like a SPORTSCAR instead of a 1976 Detroit Diesel. ;) DO IT. :D

Yes it's worth it!! It's the difference between night and day. I have a Pro 5.0 shifter and it just wants to be driven hard! it's awesome and you hear click click and you know the gear is in, no way to miss it.

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&vid=5&pcid=71

$179 from Thunder for the PRO 5.0. Thunder's customer service is the best, they ship super fast, and they are a sponsor, what else could you ask for?

If you are thinking about going shorter at some point the PRO 5.0 is the only one that will allow this modification. Plus look how beefy it looks compared the the Ripper.

What about the noise? I read a post about how the 5.0 was noiser than the Ripper. This one guy mentioned gear whine once in a while in first gear. How is the 5.0?
I like the idea of hearing the clicks!! I'm just doing this for the fun in it more than anything else, just something different and the clicking will make it more of a novelty thing for me. But I want quiet, so...
and they are both the same price on Thunder racing for $179.99.
But at jegs and summit, the B&M is $164.99. At jegs the pro 5.0 is $199.99
The Pro 5.0 is not angle to the left like the B&M, it is sticking straight up, so take that into consideration as well. When in neutral it will be farther to the right than stock.

It is possible you will hear a rattle with any aftermarket shifter. I never noticed mine till I had the radio down and on a road trip. But its not bad, but its the downfall of not having a piece of rubber in there.

I mainly got mine for the adjustable stops since, in my current car and my old car, I'd slam the stock stick against the center console and crack it.

Drag strip you will not see too much of a gain, but I gotback from my first autocross with it in, it makes the upshifts and downshifts alot smoother.

As for weather or not you should get it or no... I would say depends on your car. and where you are in modding it.

If its your first and only mod I would look for something different.

Alos definitely look for used. I got my hurst billet + for $90 shipped.

I would definitely say it is worth it. The noise and vibration are minimal, if any. I bought mine (Proform) from Autozone online for only about $130 delivered to my door.
