Hi, I am bringing my car into a tranny shop just to have things checked out. While Im there I was going to have them check the u joints. Are these easy to replace and how much does a shop usually charge to replace them. thanks.

I just did this recently while swapping it to an aluminum shaft and found it to be a pita. The stock joints are impregnated with plastic to hold the caps in place. Some guys use a torch and heat them up until the plastic melts.(NOT RECOMMENDED) However I took my shaft to a drive shaft shop and they only charged me $5.00 each to remove. Then installed the new joints myself. This was much easier then the frustration I went through trying to get them out.

Yeah, the blowtorch technique works and is a lot of fun, but can be dangerous if the plastic pops and shoots out at you. If you have a LARGE vice, you could go that route which is harder, but safer. If ou have the money to have a shop do it, I would suggest that. It can be a pain.- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance
