• aluminum flywheel results

i have just got done with putting in the aluminum flywheel from spec. my findings are:

pros:
much quicker revs
much improvement in acceleration

cons:
Price
slight vibrations
improper fitment

all in all i do feel it was worth it but since i have a grandfather who usedto be a machinist and has all the equipment to do all the maching for me. so i dont know how much the machine work would cost. the only fitment problem is the center hole in the flywheel is to small.
help me build the ultimate sleeper soon ill have a lot more mods than i can list and watch out for the spikes. 02 firebird

by how much is the center hole too small? like redrill the hole small, or just take some low grit sandpaper on a dremel small?
whats involved in installing one of these? dropping the trans?

Ya got ot drop the tranny/bell housing and take off the clutch assembly.

Vibrations are normal, but theres no reason why it shouldn't fit right out of the package.

You would have to either pull the transmission or move it back far enough to take off the torque convertor, at least in my experience on a G body w/auto tranny.

How much did the flywheel cost?

cars with manual trans' dont have TQ's, they have a clutch

the flywheel was 400$ or so. and id say that its close to the same size so i think some sandpaper should work.

Im sure that thing does wonders, expcially with a alum DS as well. Consering the v6 is designed more to be a every day ride, the flywheel is nice and heavy for no vibrations.

umm that flywheel is not heavy. the whole setup (spec stage 2 and aluminum flywheel) weights about as much as the stock flywheel.
