that is a 2 piece DS. Your first picture shows clearly the joint between the two pieces. it is covered by a rubber boot. YOu will notice that the driveshaft has a bracket in the middle, which is bolted to the torque arm.
my 99 m5 also came with a 2 piece DS.

I am curious. WHy do you want an aluminum DS? Unless you are adding a turbo or some other high powered device, you don't need to upgrade your DS. My 2 piece was just fine for 13 second passes at the drag stip.

For the amount of money you spend, I think you could get more power with some other mod.
It would make the drivetrain more efficient though.

Another thing to consider is the fact that in time you will probably have the carrier bearing go bad. At which point you need a whole new driveshaft since the bearing is non replacable. This just means that the worst you will ever have to replace are the u joints as they wear out
