    1 or 2 piece DS?

    It seems to be 1 piece driveshaft
    but I've got a 99 M5
    I believed that only automatic have one in 99
    here are the pix

    that is a 2 piece DS. Your first picture shows clearly the joint between the two pieces. it is covered by a rubber boot. YOu will notice that the driveshaft has a bracket in the middle, which is bolted to the torque arm.

    my 99 m5 also came with a 2 piece DS.

        just a question, what is a u-joint ?
        I've read I need one to fit the aluminium DS

          u-joint is what you have in the top of your 2nd picture. It's the what connects to your differential. You don't necessarily need to get a new one.

            I am curious. WHy do you want an aluminum DS? Unless you are adding a turbo or some other high powered device, you don't need to upgrade your DS. My 2 piece was just fine for 13 second passes at the drag stip.

              well 1 piece ds is lighter, less rotation mass... more RWHP

              okay, you're under 14' without it, but why do you have NOS when you can do 13' with a supercharger and without NOS, you know what I mean? ;)

              1 piece DS = More power to the ground = Faster

              with it you'll win maybe 0.1 !

                For the amount of money you spend, I think you could get more power with some other mod.

                It would make the drivetrain more efficient though.

                    when i got my 1 pc. ds. i could feel the difference, the car seemed to be more responsive.
                    96 wht. firebird 5sd. rk sport headers,3in.catco, spintech catback,CAI,FRA,3.42/lsd 180*t-stat, centerforce dual friction clutch, ls1 driveshaft, polyurethane trans. mount.<br />01 blk. z28 m6, borla exht, lid, k<br />+n, sfc., chrome 18in. y2k c5 wheels.

                      Another thing to consider is the fact that in time you will probably have the carrier bearing go bad. At which point you need a whole new driveshaft since the bearing is non replacable. This just means that the worst you will ever have to replace are the u joints as they wear out
