  • what series carrier do i have?

i know this is a dumb question, but i have a 98 camaro with the stock 3.08 gears. i thought it was a 3 series carier, but the modification guide kinda confused me. i want to get some 3.42 or MAYBE 3.73 gears. do i need to buy them for a 2 or 3 series carrier? unless i can get them used, ill probably get the motive or strange gears from thunderracing, unless anyone has any better suggetions. im also planing on getting this LSD:

will it fit fine? is there anything else i need? i was quoted $175 today for the ring & pinion install. thanks for any help!

also, how much do you guys think this will take off my 1/4 mile? and anybody got any used gears or LSD for sale?

that is exactly what i did....i bought the LSD from SLP and 3.42s from precision gears and it is awesome man.. if you decide to go to a 3.42 or maybe even a 3.73 or something like that you will have to buy a new reluctor ring (3 series)and SLP will sell you one of those . it was a pain in the *** to get mine on there but i eventually got it on there. i had to heat it up really good so it would expand enough. and $175 is a good price for ring and pinion. and also make sure you buy the helpful installation kit which is really cheap..maybe $20. goodluck hitting you pinion depth right the first time ;)

$175 is a good price for install. Don't buy the install kit. Let the shop buy what it needs. Install kits have many unneeded parts. If you want I have 3.42 GM Motive gears for sale for $165. They are $195 from thunder racing. Reluctor ring is $15. Just let the shop buy it.
